The Cleveland Browns looked dreadful during their season opener on Sunday. Jacksonville smashed Cleveland 34-10 in a game that was never close. Cleveland's Deshaun Watson-led offense never looked dangerous throughout the game. Now the Browns will have some tough questions to answer leading up to Week 2.

Browns head coach Todd Monken defended Watson after the game despite the ugly showing from his offense.

“So we're going to analyze everything of how we do it, how we coached, starting with me, how we do it offensively, defensively, and Deshaun is a part of that. Always has been, always will be…and then we'll assess it and go forward,” Monken said, per Mary Kay Cabot. “And until I really get a chance to watch it and really drill down, it's unfair for me to really comment on any one given player because it's never as bad as you think. And it's usually never as good as you think.”

It is fair for Monken to want some extra time to look at the tape. But history shows that coaches often fall back on such a response when they don't want to blast their quarterback immediately after a game.

There is no question that Browns fans are already tired of Watson. The veteran quarterback may not have much slack left before he loses his starting job permanently.

Is it already time for the Browns to consider benching Watson for good?

Todd Monken needs to give up on the Deshaun Watson experiment ASAP!

There are a few reasons why Monken needs to consider benching Watson right away.

Part of the argument is simply the body of work Watson has shown during his time in Cleveland. Watson has yet to pass for more than 1,250 yards in a season since joining the Browns in 2022. Part of the problem is Watson's injury history, as he's yet to play more than seven games in a season for the Browns.

Regardless, he's clearly not the player he once was in Houston.

Looking back at this game, Watson finished the game 16-of-22 for 205 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. The controversial quarterback also suffered five sacks. On a positive note for Watson, he was the team's leading rusher with six carries for 38 rushing yards.

On paper, that is not a terrible outing. But the Jaguars showed that the Browns' offense is completely toothless when Watson is under center. Beyond that, fans are not happy with Watson starting over Shedeur Sanders, who looks like a better option.

The Browns' home opener is in Week 3 against the Panthers. Cleveland needs to finally bench Watson before that game to rescue the season. If that does not happen, the Browns could easily become 0-3 and risk falling too far behind in the month of September.

Hopefully Monken does the right thing after watching the game film.
