The Tennessee Titans were the worst team in the NFL just two seasons ago, and they were not far off last season. The Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile, won the Super Bowl two seasons ago and have been contenders on a yearly basis for quite some time. Despite the difference in recent success, the Titans were right there in the running against Philadelphia during their Week 2 matchup.

In fact, the Titans took the lead over Philadelphia with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, the team's conservative approach cost them the win. Before extending the lead to 20-17 with a field goal, the Titans were in a great position to score a touchdown, as not only were they within the red zone, but they actually hade a goal-to-go situation on their hands.

Instead, the Titans played it safe and played for a field goal. The team ran the ball on third down, seemingly proving in the process that they don't believe in their quarterback, Cam Ward. Not only that, but the Titans left way too much time left on the clock.

Philadelphia did, in fact, mount a game-winning drive, which culminated in a Darius Cooper score and gave the Eagles a 24-20 win. Fans and analysts alike were quick to point out that Tennessee's cowardly play style was what led to the loss.

“And they got the loss they richly deserve for not even trying to score a TD on a goal-to-go situation,” Jared Dubin posted.

The Titans have a huge investment in Ward, who was the number one pick in 2025. The Titans will have to trust him to work out the kinks and take big risks if they want him to ever have the chance to reach his potential.
