The Tennessee Titans began their 2026 season on Sunday afternoon against the New York Jets. Tennessee saw new head coach Robert Saleh make his debut on the sidelines. Unfortunately for Jeffery Simmons and his teammates, the new coach was unable to lead his team to a Week 1 victory.

The Jets came away with a rather decisive win on Sunday. Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 254 yards in his Jets re-debut. And Tennessee's offense just did not get going. New York claimed a 23-10 win on the road to ring in the new season.

After the game, Simmons was asked by local reporter Paul Kuharsky if this was a “same old Titans” game. The star defensive lineman did not take that question well.

“You're ragebaiting there, Paul. When I said about the newness, it's still there. It's the first game, Paul. That was a ragebait question. But at the end of the day, we'll be back. We'll get in there tomorrow, and we'll be ready for Week 2,” the Titans star said.

Simmons recorded four total tackles in the loss on Sunday. The Titans defense was unable to generate much pressure, recording no sacks and only one QB hit. The Jets, meanwhile, were able to run their offense without many issues on Sunday afternoon.

It's certainly not the start Tennessee wanted with its new coaching staff. However, as Simmons alluded to, it is only the first game. They have 16 more contests ahead. They need to put this one behind them as soon as possible.

The Titans are in action again on September 20 when they welcome Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles to town.
