Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spent the offseason training for a highly anticipated 2026-27 season and is now putting San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama and Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic on notice. In a recent interview with Time, Gilgeous-Alexander talked about bouncing back from losing the Western Conference Finals against Wembanyama and the Spurs. He also made it clear who he thinks is the best player in the NBA.

For Gilgeous-Alexander, he’s the best player in the association, as he told Time.

“I think I’m the best player in the NBA. I think the production that I have night in and night out is best-player-in-the-NBA production,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “I think the efficiency that I do it at is best-player-in-the-NBA efficiency. I think everybody picks up a basketball or a soccer ball or a football or a tennis ball to win the game, the match, whatever it is. And I’ve done my fair share of winning in these past couple years.”

Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a two-time MVP who nearly reached the Finals in back-to-back seasons, a feat neither Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama nor Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic can claim. Jokic led the Nuggets to a 2023 championship, and Wembanyama is coming off his first Finals appearance.

This season, Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will look to capture their second title in three seasons. With All-Star Chet Holmgren coming off a breakout season, earning his first All-Star selection, and finishing runner-up to Wembanyama for last season’s Defensive Player of the Year, and with Jalen Williams healthy, Oklahoma City could be even better than the team that won it all in 2025.

As for the debate over who’s the best NBA player, most will agree SGA, Wemby, and Jokic are among the top three; fans decide the order.
