Rory McIlroy is hoping for more American misery at the Presidents Cup next week.
Brandt SnedekerâÂÂs Team USA take on Geoff OgilvyâÂÂs Internationals at Medinah Country Club in the 16th edition of the global team event.
The Americans have been hugely successful in the competition, winning the last ten and only ever losing once.
But the Internationals have arguably their best roster ever and are facing a wounded USA side in Chicago.
The Americans have suffered heavy back-to-back defeats in consecutive Ryder Cups against McIlroyâÂÂs Europe.
They also lost the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands at the weekend with Europe winning four of the last five events in the womenâÂÂs game.
To compound the bad run of results, Great Britain and Ireland produced the biggest comeback in Walker Cup history earlier this month to beat USA for the first time since 2015 in the biennial amateur tournament.
Now, Ogilvy and co will look to inflict yet another defeat on the powerhouse nation at Medinah, the venue of one of AmericaâÂÂs worst ever Ryder Cup defeats.
Asked if he felt the Europeans are on a roll in team events following the Solheim Cup result, McIlroy was quick to mention heâÂÂs hoping for another American loss next week.
He said: âÂÂI didnâÂÂt see much of it at all - I saw the Americans drinking beer and chanting on the bus on Saturday night and that was interestingâ¦
âÂÂObviously great result for the European side after what we did in Bethpage, what the Walker Cup guys did.
âÂÂAll we need now is the International to do in a couple of weeks, that would be great.âÂÂ
McIlroy, meanwhile, will headline the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week.
The Masters champion is eyeing a record-equalling eighth Race to Dubai crown on the DP World Tour this season but will need to finish the year well to overtake leader Patrick Reed.
"Obviously I'm in a very fortunate position, I guess, to be going for an eighth Race to Dubai," said McIlroy, who can leapfrog Reed into top spot with a runner-up finish this week.
"I can't believe I'm sitting here with seven. So, yeah, I'd love to give myself a chance again.
"Last week wasn't a great week for me in terms of the overall points. Patrick had a good week, and I didn't have such a great week. I'm going to have to try to make up for that this week.
"I'm certainly motivated to play well for the rest of the year. Still working on some things in my swing, so just trying to have a balance between still keeping an eye on that but trying to play my best golf and give myself some chances to win.
"It doesn't matter who's up there. I think being second right now and being a little ways off first, that's motivation enough to try to finish the year off well."
McIlroy is playing the opening two days at Wentworth alongside Aaron Rai and Ryan Fox, both of whom also won major titles this summer.
The Northern Irishman has a great record in the BMW PGA, winning it in 2014 and being runner-up in 2018, 2022 and 2024.
