After star quarterback Arch Manning and the media were under fire for laughing about an AI video of Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian slapping Holly Rowe, a reporter apologized for calling it âÂÂgold.âÂÂ
Even Vieth posted about Manning's response to a question of his during a press conference. The Longhorns' quarterback mentioned the AI video, and Vieth called his response âÂÂgoldâ in his caption.
âÂÂI realized quickly that I had made a mistake and was far too hasty in publishing the video without further context and with an inappropriate caption. For that, I am deeply sorry,â Vieth wrote.
He clarified that he originally had asked if he had seen âÂÂany of the TikTok creator edits from the weekend, ones where his celebration is shown over music and fans had taken their own creative spin on a massive win.âÂÂ
Vieth alleges that he hadn't seen the AI video of Sarkisian slapping Rowe, and in turn, he âÂÂacted far too fast in hitting send on a tweet that I regret.âÂÂ
He isn't making excuses, acknowledging that âÂÂcaptioning Manning's response with âÂÂgold' trivialized an AI video depicting domestic violence against a colleague, and that is a mistake I deeply regret.âÂÂ
Vieth praised Rowe, calling her âÂÂone of the best reporters working today.â He elaborated, âÂÂI never meant to disrespect her work, vilify Manning, or spread hatred toward anyone, but intent isn't the same as impact, and I own that.âÂÂ

âÂÂI saw the AI Edit of (Sark) slapping Holly Rowe.âÂÂ
I asked Arch Manning if heâÂÂd seen any edits on TikTok or Twitter after the game, and his answer is gold. pic.twitter.com/70FnNCVEHb

The original post by Vieth has garnered over 23 million views. Manning mentioned that he saw an AI edit of Sarkisian slapping Rowe, calling it âÂÂhilarious.âÂÂ
When he mentioned it, he â along with several reporters at the press conference â began laughing. This rubbed many the wrong way.
It stemmed from a postgame moment when Sarkisian blew off an interview with Rowe. Sarkisian interrupted Rowe, yelling, âÂÂThat's called Texas fight! That's called Texas fight! Hook 'em!â He then threw up the horns hand gesture and walked away.
