With the Houston Texans preparing for the Jacksonville Jaguars in a Week 6 matchup, the attention surrounding the team has been on their trade for Marvin Harrison Jr., a wide receiver from the Arizona Cardinals. As rumors surround the Texans trading for Harrison, this NFL insider discusses what the move means for future relations with franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud.

ESPN league insider Jeremy Fowler would say that the trade for Harrison means that Houston is “still very much in the C.J. Stroud business.” Though the team has started 1-4 on the season, Stroud has played well in what is a contract year, currently at 1,402 passing yards (fourth in the NFL) with six touchdowns and zero interceptions.

“Speaking of Houston, the Harrison trade highlights that the Texans are still very much in the C.J. Stroud business,” Fowler wrote. “The Texans rank sixth in passing offense, and Stroud, who balked on a new contract this summer in order to bet on himself in Year 4, has zero interceptions on 185 passing attempts to go with 1,402 passing yards. Stroud is taking to offensive coordinator Nick Caley's offense in Year 2.”

Texans could be aggressive in pursuing an extension with C.J. Stroud

According to ESPN, the Texans traded a 2027 second-round and sixth-round pick for Harrison and a 2027 sixth-round pick, as the team was “aggressive” in getting the Cardinals receiver, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Though starting the season in underwhelming fashion, recording five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown through four games, the hope could be that he blossoms in Houston.

Fowler reports that Texans general manager Nick Caserio could be “equally aggressive” in getting an extension done with Stroud.

“Caserio was aggressive in acquiring Harrison, and he could be equally aggressive in pursuing an extension with Stroud in the future, depending on how things go in the coming weeks and months,” Fowler wrote. “One key for all parties involved: Igniting a running game that averages 3.4 yards per clip.”

It remains to be seen what happens with Harrison and Stroud as Houston looks for their second win on Sunday against Jacksonville in London, England.
