With the SEC showdown between the Tennessee football team and the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, there is no denying that all eyes will be on freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon to continue his impressive play in a big matchup. As the quarterback battle between the Tennessee football freshman in Brandon and the Longhorns' Archie Manning will be must-watch television, head coach Josh Heupel provides insight into his early success ahead of the much-anticipated game.

Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Heupel said that Brandon has shown “great work habits” to start the season and his improvement goes back to even January.

“Yeah, young guy, super mature from the time he got here on campus in January,” Heupel said. “Great work habits, prepares in a great way, has consistently gotten better, and that's dating back from January to spring ball through the summer and into training camp; the first three weeks have continued to grow.”

“He's taken great care of the football. He's been really decisive,” Heupel continued. “Fundamentals continue to grow inside of the pocket. Accuracy continues to get better. We really like what he's doing. Tomorrow, he's just got to be him and take another step.”

So far this season, the freshman signal-caller has thrown for 552 yards to go along with six touchdowns and zero interceptions through three games, while also rushing for 137 yards and three scores. Brandon looks to carry the momentum of himself and the Tennessee football program into the outing on Saturday afternoon when the No. 14 Volunteers take on the No. 1-ranked Longhorns.
