The Connecticut Sun have played their final season at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville as the team is moving to Houston and rebranding as the former Comets for the 2027 WNBA season. One of the biggest questions surrounding the team amid the move was the future of head coach Rachid Meziane. That question has now been answered as Meziane will remain as head coach of the team, as per Danielle Lerner of The Houston Chronicle.

Rachid Meziane was initially hired as head coach of the Sun ahead of the 2025 WNBA season, and will reprise his role with the now Houston Comets. During his two seasons at the helm, he has compiled an overall record of 22-66. Given the team’s overall record the last two years, they have a strong chance at landing one of the top draft picks in the 2027 WNBA Draft.

The decision to keep Meziane as head coach comes amid the franchise opting for continuity in the move to Houston. Team president Jen Rizzotti and general manager Morgan Tuck will both remain in their roles alongside the rebrand to the Comets.

Prior to arriving in the WNBA, Meziane had been a longtime coach overseas. He had also been the head coach of the Belgian national team before resigning from his position when he took the Sun job. He also had experience as an assistant coach with the French national team.

The Sun had begun their existence as the Orlando Miracle. The franchise played in Orlando for four seasons before being relocated to Connecticut in 2003.
