In a weekend full of unexpected results across college football, UCLA avoided becoming part of the list of teams caught up in the upset chaos. However, even before the Bruins secured their win over Wisconsin, former NFL quarterback Steve Young had already expressed his support for the program, revealing his long-standing “secret love” for UCLA.
Before the game, during an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay, Young opened up about his emotional connection to the Bruins and explained how watching the Rose Bowl as a child shaped his admiration for the team.
“I'm an emotional picker today,” Young said. “I don't know. Maybe it's just part of being up here with you guys but I grew up on the East Coast watching the Rose Bowl every year when the sunshine and the cheerleaders and all of it I was like UCLA and the colors I had secretly prayed I could be a Bruin all my life. I had a secret love for UCLA.”
The former quarterback had another reason to celebrate the Bruins on Saturday as they secured a 17-7 victory over Wisconsin. With the win, UCLA remained undefeated and became the only unbeaten team left across the Big Ten and SEC.
One of the biggest highlights of UCLA’s victory was quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, who stepped into the starting role after Nico Iamaleava suffered an injury. Making his first career Football Bowl Subdivision start, Dieffenbach delivered a strong performance, completing 22 of 33 passes for 264 yards and helping the Bruins maintain their perfect record.
Meanwhile, the Bruins’ defense played an equally important role in securing the win. Wisconsin managed just 214 total yards and was limited to only 66 passing yards.

UCLA will now look to extend its unbeaten run when it hosts Michigan State in its next game.
