Stephen A. Smith has a certain wish involving Shedeur Sanders he wants the New York Giants to do after Jaxson Dart's season-ending injury.

Dart saw his sophomore campaign come to an abrupt end two games into the 2026 season. He injured his knee against the Los Angeles Rams, later finding out more information that showed more damage to the area.

Dart will undergo surgery to resolve the situation, only being able to return to the playoffs at the earliest. Jameis Winston, who replaced Dart in the Week 2 contest, will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. However, Smith didn't hesitate to name Sanders as a viable option the team can pursue.

“If there was a possible way they could pull it off, I would tell the Giants to go out and pursue Shedeur Sanders. I ain't gonna lie to you. That would be what was on my mind personally. Let me tell you something about this whole Jameis Winston situation. Yeah, they knew it. They signed him to a $13 million extension…It ain't about looking for a top 30 quarterback. It's about looking for a better backup than Jameis Winston,” Smith said on First Take.

“Could you find that? That's the real question. Can you can you pull that off if you're the New York Giants? Because that's what you're looking for right now.”

What lies ahead for Giants amid Jaxson Dart's injury

Jaxson Dart's injury is brutal for the Giants to take in. After having a promising start to the season, the injury has them fall back down to earth as their situation gets harder this year.

Winston struggled against the Rams in Week 2 after taking over in the first quarter. He needs to bounce back to give New York a chance at salvaging their season, something the squad hopes will happen with the improvements they have made throughout the roster.

The Giants will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being at home. They host the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 as kickoff commences on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ET.
