On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will hit the road to take on the New England Patriots, looking to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Steelers will once again be without cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in this one, as the star holds out for a new contract despite being cleared to play from a back injury.

Now, the latest intel has been revealed on trade rumors surrounding Porter Jr. and the team.

“… it is still a long-standing tradition that the organization does not negotiate during the season. One other thing to note the Steelers are not actively shopping him and have not received any calls regarding him either,” reported NFL insider Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Wolfson also added that “The source told me they have nothing but respect for Porter and his family.”

Porter Jr. is a key member of the Steelers' defense, and although that unit didn't have much trouble shutting down Cooper Rush and the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1, they'd definitely like to have him back out on the field as they start to face tougher competition.

It remains to be seen if Porter Jr. would continue to willingly give up millions of dollars as the holdout continues throughout the season, or if the stalemate will break one way or another.

At this point, it would seem that something has to give, even if it means the Steelers breaking their tradition and exploring trade scenarios.

In any case, the Steelers and Patriots are set to kick things off on Sunday at 1:00 pm ET from Foxborough.
