Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams left Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a right hamstring injury on a non-contact play in the fourth quarter at Soldier Field.

Williams was running toward the end zone on a first-down play in the red zone when his right leg appeared to give way. The 24-year-old fell to the ground and immediately grabbed his right leg. He attempted to get back up twice but could not stand without help from the team's trainers.

Williams was taken to the injury tent before being placed on a cart and transported to the locker room. He was visibly in pain but later raised his right fist and gave the home crowd a thumbs-up. The Bears officially announced that Williams had sustained a hamstring injury and ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

Former San Diego Chargers Head Team Physician David J. Chao, known as Pro Football Doc, offered an initial assessment of the injury.

“Unfortunately, this is a hazard of wet weather,” said Chao. “Wet weather allows fewer high ankles, fewer knee injuries, but more muscle injuries, especially worrisome early season with acclimation. We'll have to see how bad the tear is, but certainly looks like Caleb Williams is going to miss some time.”

Williams' injury initially raised concerns about a possible ACL or Achilles tear because of his reaction and inability to put weight on the leg. However, head coach Ben Johnson said after the game that he was relieved the injury did not involve Williams' knee.

“I mean you could kind of see in real time. I'm actually happy it's nothing with the knee,” said Johnson. “That was my first inclination. But yeah, a hamstring can be pretty damaging as well. We'll see how bad it is tomorrow and we'll go from there. It's quickly you've got to turn the page.”

Williams is scheduled to undergo imaging on Monday to determine the extent of the injury. Tyson Bagent took over at quarterback after Williams exited.

The Bears were unable to score a touchdown despite reaching inside the Vikings 6-yard line twice. Cairo Santos also had a 23-yard field-goal attempt blocked in the loss.

Up next, the Bears host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Sept. 28.
