Source: Josh Simmons is "week-to-week" with back injury

Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons, the team’s first-round pick in 2025, missed the opening game of the season with a back injury. He’ll be out for Sunday night’s game against the Colts, too.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Simmons is “week-to-week,” due to the back injury. He has gotten a second opinion from a back specialist.

Simmons is in the facility on a daily basis, we’re told, getting rehab on the injury and attending meetings.

The Chiefs haven’t placed Simmons on injured reserve, which would require him to miss a minimum of four games.

The situation has, for some, conjured memories of 2025, when Simmons was absent from the team for 22 days, due to what the team called a “family situation.” This time, the word is that it’s a strictly physical issue for Simmons. (For now, at least.)

Either way, Simmons isn’t playing. And “week-to-week” suggests that he could miss at least another week. The Chiefs play at Miami next Sunday. In Week 4, the Chiefs face the Raiders in Las Vegas.

On Monday night, undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson started at left tackle and was on the field for all 69 offensive snaps.
