The Seattle Seahawks got back to their Super Bowl-winning formula on Monday night, snapping a two-game losing streak with a dominant 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in front of their home crowd. The Chiefs came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record, but had no answers on either side of the ball in one of the most lopsided losses of the Patrick Mahomes era.
The story of this game is the Seattle defense completely shutting down Kenneth Walker III in his return to Seattle. Walker was held to just 36 rushing yards after leading the league in that category coming into the week, leaving the Kansas City offense without its best weapon. But on the other side of the ball, star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued to dominate in historic fashion.
Smith-Njigba finished the night with nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown that put Seattle ahead 10-0 in the first half. He consistently came up big on key downs for the Seahawks, as he almost always does, and extended his NFL lead in receiving yards in the process.
The former Ohio State star now has 867 receiving yards in seven games this season, a number that leads the league by 231 yards heading into Monday Night Football. His numbers have him on an all-time pace as he races ahead of the pack in 2026.
Article Continues BelowDetroit Lions legend Calvin Johnson has the NFL's single-season receiving yards record with 1,964 back in 2012. Smith-Njigba is currently on pace to pass that record in the Seahawks' 16th game of the season. His 17-game pace puts him at 2,106 yards on the season, per Pro Football Talk.
The Seahawks will need Smith-Njigba to continue this record pace, especially after losing Rashid Shaheed to a knee injury during the win over the Chiefs. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year continues to eat a majority of the targets from Sam Darnold, and the Seattle offense continues to thrive as a result. If he can keep it going, he might even have a new NFL record to add to his resume.
