The stigma of blowing a considerable lead against Texas will forever haunt Ohio State this season. They had the game going into the fourth quarter. A very sizable lead, then it all withered away.

However, head coach Ryan Day remains resolved and determined, not letting it get to him. Going as far as to defend the team against claims that they choked, per Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch.

In essence, Day is fighting back against the idea that the team somehow wasn't trying to win.

“I would disagree that we weren't pushing forward and trying to score touchdowns,” Day said.

At the same time, Day recognized things they could do, generally speaking. He specifically mentioned one play in particular.

“I felt like we could pin them,” he said. “I don't think we did a very good job executing the pooch punt.”

In the third quarter, Ohio State led 23-3. They punted from the 39-yard line. Instead of going for the ball in their own territory, it bounced off. It ultimately fell into the hands of Texas defender Kade Phillips, who fell on it at the 9-yard line.

From there, the Buckeyes saw the game start to slip away.

Arch Manning led three consecutive scoring drives in the fourth quarter. Hollywood Smothers scored the winning touchdown with 25 seconds left.

As a result, Texas became the No. 1-ranked team in the nation. Meanwhile, Ohio State is ranked No.6.

On Saturday, Ohio State will play against Kent State at home in Columbus, Ohio.
