The 2026 World Series began Friday in Milwaukee at American Family Field. It marked the first time the Brewers played in the Fall Classic since 1982.

Before the first official pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays, Brewers legend Robin Yount was slated to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before a packed house, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

It was an emotional moment for more than one reason. Former MLB Commissioner and Brewers owner Bud Selig handed Yount the ball. Additionally, Young wore a Bob Uecker jacket, in honor of the beloved broadcaster who passed away in 2025.

Yount is one of the most legendary players in franchise history. He was part of the 1982 team that reached the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. That year, he won his first MVP as a shortstop. In the World Series, the Brewers lost to the Cardinals in seven games.

In 1989, Yount won his 2nd MVP after moving to center field.

Altogether, Yount played in MLB from 1974 to 1993. He finished his career with 3,142 hits, a .285 lifetime batting average, 251 home runs, 1406 RBIs, and 1,632 runs scored.

He was a 3-time All-Star (1980, 1982, 1983), a 1982 Gold Glove winner, and a 3-time Silver Slugger Award winner (1980, 1982, 1989). In 1999, Yount was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Meanwhile, the Brewers are looking to win their first World Series in franchise history. The same is true of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Brewers finished the season at 103-59, won the National League Central Division title, and swept the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.
