Report: Jets WR Omar Cooper to have MRI on injured ankle

Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper’s first NFL catch made a major impact, but he wasn’t able to build on that first impression during Sunday’s 23-10 win over the Titans.

Cooper left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and never returned. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that X-rays of Cooper’s ankle were negative and that he will have an MRI to further evaluate what appears to be a sprain.

Cooper’s first catch came on a third-down on the Jets’ opening drive and he turned a modest gain into 30 yards by eluding tacklers. Fellow first-round pick Kenyon Sadiq ran for a touchdown a short time later and the Jets were on their way to the win.

That was Cooper’s only catch and the MRI should show how long it will be until he’ll be back to try for his second.
