Kyle Lowry hasn't played for the Toronto Raptors since 2021, and the six-time All-Star just recently retired from the NBA, but the basketball team north of the border are all in on the point guard right now. Lowry signed a ceremonial one-day contract with the team he spent nine seasons with back in July.

And then over the weekend, Lowry was honored by the Raptors and the city of Toronto as a whole in a big way. Lowry was given the Key to the City by Mayor Olivia Chow. Furthermore, the Raptors made a Raptor statue that sports Lowry's number seven and dubs him the GROAT, or greatest Raptor of all time.

The celebration of a magnificent career that hit its climax in Toronto won't end there. The Raptors will also retire Lowry's jersey during the 2026-27 season. Of course, this season will also see the return of Kawhi Leonard, who was Lowry's star teammate when the team won the 2019 NBA championship.

Lowry was a career 13.6-point-per-game scorer who added six assists per game. The point guard was a late-bloomer, but he really found his footing in Toronto. Now, Lowry is reaping the rewards of the success that he found with the Raptors.


Lowry, DeRozan, and Siakam took a picture with OG Anunoby and Fred VanVleet during the point guard's big weekend, and it got fans reminiscing on old times. At the time that Toronto won the championship, the Raptors were viewed as a weaker championship team that relied on greatness from Leonard. The years since have proven that the team was loaded with talent.
