The Chicago White Sox were able to defeat the Detroit Tigers 3-1 in the first game of their series, and that will go a long way with just a few games remaining before the postseason. It was the Randal Grichuk show in this game for the White Sox, as he did all the dirty work at left field for the team.

He had some big plays from that side of the field, and it may have come from trying to prove the doubters wrong about his skill, according to ESPN's Jeese Rogers.

“Randal Grichuk, after making several big throws from LF tonight: ‘I go out there everyday and work on my defense. A lot of people have said my defense is well below average. I go out there and work at it everyday to prove people wrong. It showed up tonight,'” Rogers wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

If there were any doubters before his performance last night, then they probably disappeared at some point during and after the game. This is the type of game that the White Sox want to see from Grichuk, and if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs, they're going to need that from him consistently.

The White Sox have gotten big games from several players over the week, and it started with Tristan Peters against the Cleveland Guardians. It led analyst Steve Phillips to believe that they could truly make the playoffs.

“If the White Sox make the playoffs, that at-bat from Tristan Peters will be the reason why,” Phillips said on MLB Network Radio. “….that was a huge win for them.”

It'll be interesting to see how the White Sox finish the season, and the hope is that they can do it on a high note.
