Former NBA star JR Smith was arrested on September 29 in Royse City, Texas, after an automated license plate reader flagged his vehicle for an active warrant over an alleged incident with a family member on September 18. The bodycam footage of the arrest has been made public, and, well, it turns out the police officer had a few things to say about LeBron James and the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The video shows the 41-year-old former guard standing on the side of the road as he informs the officer that he used to play in the NBA. Once the officer realized who he was and that Smith had at one time played alongside James, he opened up and shared a take about James allegedly stealing Doncic away from the Mavericks.
The policeman appears to believe James is at fault for pushing the Doncic trade for the Lakers. The officer addressed LeBron James as if he were Lord Voldemort from the “Harry Potter” franchise, and is still seemingly unhappy with the deal overall.
“He who shall not be named,” the officer said. “He stole Luka from us, man. He stole Luka from us. That was all him. I'm still mad. Still mad… If they just let Rick Carlisle coach like Rick Carlisle coaches, and let him condition [Luka].”

It was a trade that sent shockwaves through the NBA. However, the fact that the Mavericks ended up winning the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and took Cooper Flagg has to help with the sting of losing Luka Doncic a little.
