New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski spent nine seasons with the New England Patriots. Throughout those years, Gronkowski experienced plenty of success, but there is one particular incident from his time in New England that he still remembers clearly.
Gronkowski joined The Dan Patrick Show on Friday morning and recalled joking during a production meeting that it would take an entire defense to tackle him.
“It was my second year, going to my second year. And Scott Zolack, he's the, you know, game day commentator about play-by-play in the local market in New England. And I had that little, it was a production meeting, and Scott Zolack was like, ‘How many guys does it take to tackle you?' And I go, ‘Sky, it takes a whole entire defense to tackle me this year. I'm going to go all out.' So then Scott Zolack, it was like me saying it like that, just being funny,” Gronkowski said.
“Scott Zolack goes out to that game the next day and goes, ‘Oh, I catch a ball.' He goes, ‘I was talking to Gronk at the production meeting. It doesn't take three guys. It doesn't take four. It takes a whole entire defense to take him down, he was telling me.' So, then I kind of had like a bad play, got taken down by one guy.”
After the incident, Belichick used the moment to teach him that media comments can be taken out of context and reminded him to stay humble.
Despite the story, Gronkowski's NFL career will forever be connected to legendary quarterback Tom Brady. The two developed an almost telepathic connection during their time together in New England, becoming one of the most recognizable quarterback-tight end duos in NFL history.
