New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's rocky start to the 2026 season took another turn for the worse Sunday, as he threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in a 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Maye completed 14 of 25 passes for 199 yards without a touchdown, settling for an 11.9 Total QBR, the lowest by a Patriots starting-QB since Bailey Zappe's 1.9 against the New York Jets in Week 18 of the 2023 season.

Through three games, Maye has already thrown six interceptions, matching the most by a Patriots quarterback through three games since Drew Bledsoe also had six in 1994. He has just one touchdown pass this season, while his completion rate has fallen from 72.0% in 2025 to 63.8%, his yards per attempt has dropped from 8.9 to 7.3, and his passer rating has declined from 113.5 to 58.6.

The turnover numbers have also pushed Maye into an unwanted statistical category. Since the beginning of the postseason, he has recorded nine fumbles and 10 interceptions. That makes him the first player with at least nine fumbles and 10 interceptions across a seven-game period since Jameis Winston in 2019, when Winston finished with a 30-touchdown, 30-interception season.

Sunday's problems started late in the opening quarter when Maye lost the football while attempting a pass. He explained afterward that center Jared Wilson had been bleeding on his hand, contributing to the fumble on the attempted throw to Kyle Williams.

Maye later threw an interception from the Jacksonville 2-yard line while targeting Efton Chism III along the end line. Travis Hunter made his first career interception on the play. Maye added another interception in the third quarter on a comeback route intended for Williams, acknowledging afterward that he should not have made the throw.

The pressure around Maye has also been immense. He faced pressure on 11 dropbacks during the first half versus the Jaguars, a career high for a half, while entering the game with a 43.5% pressure rate, the fourth-highest figure among starting quarterbacks, according to PFF.

Last season, he produced 31 touchdowns against eight interceptions, a 72.0% completion rate, 8.9 yards per attempt, a 113.5 passer rating and +0.28 EPA per dropback.

The Patriots are next up against the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills, who are off to a 3-0 start. Maye has 14 games remaining to right the ship after a start that has produced six interceptions, one touchdown and a 58.6 passer rating.
