The Milwaukee Brewers, year-in, year-out, find a way to succeed even though they don't operate with the biggest budget in MLB. And it all starts with the way they approach the game. Now, the Brewers can call themselves champion after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-1, in Game 5 of the 2026 World Series to seal a 4-1 series victory.

The Brewers have been in the hunt of a World Series title over the past decade or so. They came close in 2025, only for the Los Angeles Dodgers to sweep them in the NLCS. But there are no heartbreaks this time around for Pat Murphy and his men, who made it clear from the get-go that this team is going to embrace an “uncommon” mindset with the goal of separating themselves from the rest of the pack.

“You got the right mix that decided they wanted to be uncommon. We talked about that. You have to have an uncommon mindset. Not common to the game. It's gotta be about team. You gotta care about your teammates. You really do. You don't have to like them. But you got to understand what it takes to play winning baseball,” Murphy said in appearance on MLB Network's MLB Tonight.

“Stay relentless. Get off the floor when things don't go well. They decided they wanted to do that. They made a pact, ‘Let's be the last man standing.'”

There are no egos in this baseball club. It's all about keeping the line moving, doing well enough to get the ball to the next shutdown reliever, and earn enough wins when it matters the most. This Brewers team played fundamentally sound and analytically forward baseball, and they were the best team in MLB without question, both in the regular season and postseason.

Whether or not this Brewers team can do it again is another question entirely. But if they embrace this so-called “uncommon” mindset that Murphy is preaching, there's no reason to believe that they can't overcome their World Series hangover and compete for another one in 2027.
