The Carolina Panthers delivered a massive primetime statement in beating the Detroit Lions 32-26 Sunday. Although the physical battle left edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and tackle Monroe Freeling banged up.

Now coach Dave Canales provided a promising update on Monday via Panthers insider Mike Kaye of ESPN.

“Jaelan Phillips (hamstring) is a ‘hopeful' for Philly in Week 6. Same with Monroe Freeling (knee), per Canales,” Kaye posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

So Carolina could have both back for the next massive NFC showdown on the Panthers' schedule. The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-2 following their meltdown loss to the Los Angeles Rams Sunday, whom they've defeated in the last four meetings.

The Panthers, meanwhile, showed the league that it can topple aspiring Super Bowl contenders like the Lions. Plus quarterback Bryce Young catapulted his career to new heights. Even pulling it off without Freeling being healthy.

Young hit 29 completions out of 41 attempts, then shredded the Lions with 329 yards and tossed two touchdowns in the win. He even got showered with “M-V-P!” chants inside Bank of America Stadium, making him the first Panthers QB to receive that chant since Cam Newton.

Turns out Young hit a territory last seen by the franchise's only Most Valuable Player winner Newton. Young's numbers matched a similar feat Newton hit on a primetime stage. He also hit 70% of his throws, joining Newton and other past quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Steve Beuerlein in reaching that mark.

Now Carolina looks ready to become restrengthened thanks to the health update involving Freeling and Phillips.
