The Green Bay Packers (0-1) travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the Jets (1-0) Sunday afternoon. The Jets will look to build on their dominant 23âÂÂ10 victory over the Titans in Nashville last weekend. Meanwhile, the Packers will aim forâÂÂand likely expectâÂÂa stronger performance and a better result than their 39âÂÂ22 season-opening loss to the Vikings.
The Packers actually led their game 22-10 late in the third quarter before imploding and allowing four touchdowns to Carson Wentz and co. over the final 17:08 of the game. Christian Watson had a big game for the Packers with six receptions totaling 147 yards and a couple touchdowns. Matthew Golden had six catches for 95 yards. Green BayâÂÂs ground game totaled a mere 66 yards, but the real problems were on the defensive side of the ball. Minnesota gained just 239 Total Yards, but they were super-efficient in the second half, scoring the gameâÂÂs final 29 points. Green Bay could not get a stop down the stretch. Micah Parsons (knee) remaining on the sidelines certainly does not help the cause in Wisconsin.
The Jets never trailed in their win over the Titans. Rookie tight end Kenyon Sadique scored New YorkâÂÂs first touchdown of the season and Breece Hall rushed for 102 yards on 22 carries as the Jets won in Week 1 for the first time since 2023. Geno Smith was an efficient 19-24 for 215 yards. He was not sacked and did not turn the ball over. Kicker Jason Sanders was 3-4 including a pair from beyond 50 yards.
The two biggest storylines heading into this game are Green BayâÂÂs offensive line and their injuries. Lets start with the lengthy injury report. The Packers enter Week 2 with Josh Jacobs out, Luke Musgrave out, Micah Parsons out, and Jordon Riley out, with TyâÂÂRon Hopper, Josh Whyle, Brandon Cisse, Warren Brinson, and Aaron Banks all questionable. Those are key contributors missing or at least hampered especially along the offensive line. This after a Week 1 that saw the Packers struggle consistently up front. For the game, the Vikings blitzed a little over 75% of the snaps. Jordan Love was sacked four times and turned the ball over twice. The Vikings shut down the Packers running game. Can the Jets do what Minnesota did defensively? Probably not. New York did sack Cam Ward three times and forced the young signal-caller into poor throws consistently. But Ward is no Jordan Love.
Looking to avoid an 0-2 start, expect the Packers to be a bit more determined in their approach to the week and their matchup against Gang Green. That said, New York limited their mistakes and were very efficient on both sides of the ball against Tennessee. A win for the Jets would mark their first 2-0 start since 2015.
Bottom line: expect points.
