The Green Bay Packers nearly had to get creative in a way Matt LaFleur had never experienced during SundayâÂÂs 20-17 win over the New York Jets.
Green Bay lost several offensive linemen during the game, leaving the team dangerously thin up front. At one point, the Packers were preparing for the possibility of using starting tight end Tucker Kraft at offensive tackle while Jacob Monk underwent evaluation.
âÂÂI loved the fact that our guys who stepped into the game, whether it was Jager or, obviously, Belton, came in and just competed and battled,â LaFleur said. âÂÂMatter of fact, there was a time we were down four o-linemen. We were talking about having to put Tucker Kraft in at tackle when Monk was getting evaluated. I've never been a part of anything like that, but it does come up from time to time.âÂÂ

The situation developed after right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele left with a knee injury. Aaron Banks then aggravated his toe injury before his replacement, Donovan Jennings, also exited with a hand injury. MonkâÂÂs evaluation briefly left Green Bay without another available offensive lineman.
Kraft has established himself as a physical blocker, but asking him to line up at tackle would have been a major adjustment. Fortunately for Green Bay, Monk was cleared to return, allowing the Packers to avoid using their tight end in the trenches.
Rookies Jager Burton and Anthony Belton helped keep the offense together alongside Jordan Morgan and Elgton Jenkins as Green Bay held on for the three-point victory.
The Packers now have little time to recover. They face the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. It gives the team only a few days to assess its injuries and potentially add offensive line depth before the short-week matchup.
