Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers suffered with their run game as they made franchise history for the wrong reasons against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night.
Green Bay was severely lacking in the rushing attack. Their star running back Josh Jacobs continues to deal with legal trouble as the NFL has prevented him from playing with the team until his case draws to a close.
It's clear the Packers sorely miss his presence. They only attempted nine rushes for a measly 17 yards. This ended up seeing Atlanta make franchise history at the hosts' expense, per reporters Will McFadden and Rob Demovsky.
“This is the fewest amount of rushing yards the Falcons have ever allowed in a single game in franchise history. Atlanta wanted to get better against the run this offseason, and the've been lights out so far. Entered this game No. 1 against the run, and then did this…,” McFadden wrote.
“The Packers have rushed for a total of 146 yards this season. That’s their fewest rushing yards through the first three games of a season since 1933, per ESPN Research. Bijan Robinson ran for 194 today alone,” Demovsky stated.
How Packers played against Falcons
Jordan Love and the Packers might have panic three games in, suffering an embarrassing loss at home. This potentially puts Matt LaFleur on the hot seat, as anything lower than a playoff berth would be unacceptable.
The game started out close as both teams were even at seven apiece after the first quarter. The rest of the night was all Atlanta as the visitors routed the hosts 28-7 throughout the last 45 minutes of the contest.
Love tried his best to keep the offense active but couldn't put together a strong performance. He completed 28 out of 53 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns and one interception.
Matthew Golden and Christian Watson were the bright spots in the attack. Golden caught five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, while Watson made seven receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown.
The Packers will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being on the road. They take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 as kickoff commences on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. ET.
