The 32-year-old seam bowler claimed the Bob Willis Trophy at the Vitality Cricket Media Club Awards following a remarkable return to Test cricket.
At the Vitality Cricket Media Club Awards held at Lord's on Tuesday, Ollie Robinson received recognition as England Cricketer of the Year. The 32-year-old Middlesex seam bowler claimed the trophy bearing the name of former England captain Bob Willis, marking his first major individual honour since returning to the Test side this year.
Robinson had spent more than two years away from England selection before his comeback in 2026. Across four Test matches this summer, he took 28 wickets at an average of 9.32 against New Zealand and Pakistan, establishing himself as a cornerstone of England's red-ball attack.
The experienced right-arm seamer, who has 104 Test wickets to his name, reflected on the significance of his return to international cricket.
"It’s a huge honour to receive this award. After spending such a long time away from the England side, to come back and have the summer I’ve had has been incredibly special," Robinson was quoted as saying by News18 Cricket Next.
"There were certainly some tough moments along the way, which makes receiving recognition like this mean even more. I’ve absolutely loved being back playing for England and hopefully there’s plenty more to come," he added.
His 28 wickets across the four-match summer elevated Robinson into the top five of the ICC's Test bowling rankings. The consistency of his bowling throughout the series against both New Zealand and Pakistan demonstrated his readiness to shoulder responsibility in England's attack.
Robinson's role in England's winter schedule
Robinson is set to play a central role in England's winter red-ball programme. The seam bowler will feature in upcoming tours to South Africa and Bangladesh, as well as the 150th anniversary Test in Melbourne, Australia. His selection for these high-profile fixtures underscores the selectors' confidence in his ability to deliver at the highest level.
Robinson became the fifth recipient of the Bob Willis Trophy since its reallocation in 2022. The award recognises outstanding contribution to English cricket and has become one of the most prestigious individual honours in the domestic game. His name now joins a select group of recent winners of the accolade.
