The No. 4 Ole Miss football team is now preparing for its Week 4 matchup against No. 21 Florida. However, with the game approaching, the Rebels still do not have a definitive update on the availability of star running back Kewan Lacy.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel provided the latest update on Lacy, reporting that the running back is now listed “questionable” to play against Florida on Saturday.
Lacy suffered a shoulder injury during the third quarter of Ole Miss’ 32-24 victory over LSU. Following the injury, head coach Pete Golding and the coaching staff decided to keep him out for the remainder of the game as a precaution.
Initial X-rays on Lacy came back negative, while a subsequent MRI provided further encouraging news by confirming that the injury is not expected to be a long-term issue. Golding also revealed that the star running back is not expected to undergo surgery.
Article Continues Below“The shoulder's not as bad as we thought it was,” Golding said. “It's still not perfect. He doesn't need surgery. It's getting padded up right now. We've kind of held him from the contact portion of practice the last two days, and we'll really evaluate pregame.”
Lacy finished the 2025 season among the nation’s most productive running backs and has carried that form into the current season. Before suffering the injury against LSU, Lacy remained a major part of the Rebels’ offensive attack, recording 191 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 39 carries through three games.
If Lacy is ultimately unable to suit up on Saturday, JT Lindsay would be in line to receive a significantly expanded role in the Ole Miss backfield.
However, Ole Miss will certainly hope to have Lacy available against Florida, especially with the Rebels entering the game undefeated and looking to maintain their winning streak.
