The Denver Nuggets looked like they forgot how to play basketball on Thursday, dropping their season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder, 96-84, at Paycom Center.

The Nuggets were handcuffed by the Thunder. Nikola Jokic only scored 13 points on 5-of-19 shooting, including 1-of-7 from three-point range, while Jamal Murray only had eight points on 2-of-11 shooting.

If there was a positive to glean from the loss, it was Aaron Gordon's solid performance. He led Denver with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from long distance, six rebounds, and two steals.

For Yahoo! Sports' Kevin O'Connor, Gordon continues to be slept on.

“I really don't think people realize that Aaron Gordon is an All-Star-quality player now. His game has blossomed ever since he figured out his jumper. I thought he belonged on the All-Star team last year prior to his injury. Gordon could once again be even better this year,” wrote O'Connor on X.

The 31-year-old forward has become a more efficient and well-rounded player since the Nuggets acquired him in a trade with the Orlando Magic in 2021.

He has always put in the work despite being derailed by various injuries. He has also been aided by Jokic's brilliance, which has made Gordon understand that he cannot just rely on his athleticism and leaping ability all the time.

Last season, he played only 36 games due to multiple ailments. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

With the deep talent in the Western Conference, Gordon has stiff competition in earning his first nod to the All-Star Game. But it could only motivate him to strive harder.
