This week, the league cracked down on the scourge of (checks notes) players pretending to drink an invisible beverage. (To the delight of the league’s official beer sponsor.)
The sudden decision to fine players for illegal beveraging was a surprise to most. Including the NFL Players Association.
“The players nor the union were given notice that these acts would constitute a fine,” an NFLPA spokesperson told PFT in a statement. “In some instances players have been doing these same celebrations for years and they have never been an issue.”
Indeed they have. The attached photo of 49ers fullback Kule Juszczyk taking a drink of air comes not from the Dolphins-49ers game played on September 20, 2026 but from the Dolphins-49ers game played on December 4, 2022.
“We are working with the league on how to resolve the fines from last week and how to ensure players have proper notice going forward,” the NFLPA said.
The best outcome would be to suspend the fines and to reach an agreement moving forward regarding whether and to what extent the No Fun League is now the No Chug League.
