With NBA Media Day right around the corner, teams are still trying to round out their roster for training camp. There are some moves being made here and there, but there's a chance that a trade could come to fruition in the coming days that involves the Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

“Atlanta and Charlotte, league sources say, have engaged in on-and-off trade discussions at various points this month on trade frameworks that would feature the Hornets' Dorian Finney-Smith and the Hawks' Buddy Hield,” Fischer wrote.

“League sources say that the Hawks have been exploring potential trades that include Hield's $9.7 million salary all summer. If something does come to fruition with the Hornets, sending out Hield in a deal for Finney-Smith would furnish Atlanta with a wing defender who boasts notable size … although Finney-Smith played in only 37 games last season after undergoing ankle surgery in June 2025.”

The Hawks were not able to find a trade partner for Hield earlier in the season, but it looks like they may have something for him before the season. The Hawks barely played Hield last season after trading for him at the deadline from the Golden State Warriors, and there was a good chance he wouldn't get many minutes this season as well.

Finney-Smith would be a veteran 3-and-D player who helps them at the end of the rotation. He played in 37 games for the Houston Rockets last season.

As for the Hornets, they could use another shooter on their team after losing a few of them during the offseason. They were able to add some, which includes Grayson Allen, Naz Reid and Royce O'Neale.

It'll be interesting to see if somebody gets done between both teams before training camp.
