The Navy Midshipmen are scheduled to face off against the UAB Blazers at 7 p.m. EST on Friday. Hours before kickoff, reports indicated that head coach Brian Newberry was undecided about who would start at quarterback between Braxton Woodson and Jackson Jackson Gutierrez. With the start of the contest quickly approaching, reports finally reveal which signal-caller will get the start.

Gutierrez, who has been a backup throughout his career, is expected to get the start for Friday's matchup against UAB, according to Brett McMurphy of On3 Sports. It will be his first career start ever, but it will be his 14th game appearance.

“Update: Navy backup QB Jackson Gutierrez is expected to make his 1st career start tonight at UAB, source told On3 Sports,” McMurphy reported.

Gutierrez is considered a junior, and while he does play quarterback, he's only thrown 14 pass attempts in three years, resulting in six completions for 100 yards and two touchdowns. While that may be concerning for the quarterback position, Gutierrez has proven to be a reliable ball carrier. In his 13 career games, he has rushed for 294 yards off 48 attempts while scoring three touchdowns. He owns an impressive 6.1 yards per attempt average.
