Muhammad Ali’s grandson to return against unbeaten star after ‘fight outside of the ring’

Nico Ali Walsh will return to the ring next month in Kansas City.

Fighting for the first time since forming an alliance to preserve the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, Ali Walsh faces undefeated American Treavon Craycraft.

The 26-year-old, who is 12-1-1 in his professional boxing career, hasn't fought since a unanimous decision win over Jeremiah Sserwadda in Dubai last December.

Now under the guidance of famed boxing trainer Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre, Ali Walsh fights Craycraft in an eight-round middleweight main event next, as part of a two-day boxing show on October 10.

"For the past ten months, my biggest fight hasn’t been inside the ring — it’s been in Washington, DC, working with lawmakers,” Ali Walsh said ahead of his fight at Kansas' Memorial Hall.

"I’m proud to say we’ve made meaningful progress and helped bring about some important changes for fighters.

"I’m so happy to be back under the lights and doing what I love… boxing.

"On October 10, I’m going to give the fans of Kansas City a great show and continue building my own legacy while I proudly represent what my grandfather built in this sport."

Ali Walsh went undefeated in his first eight bouts before suffering two narrow defeats to Sona Akale, who he beat in a rematch, and Juan Carlos Gerra in Oklahoma and New York, respectively.

This has since raised questions over how far Ali Walsh can go in his career.

But Ali Walsh is ambitious and believes he will reach world level one day.

Ali Walsh wants to continue proving people wrong

"From the start of my career, I've proven people wrong," he said.

"What only matters to me is I'm proving myself right. I know what I have in me.

"I've already seen the path in my head — these stories don't come without the setbacks.

"I want to rise to the top and then these stories can be told."

Ali Walsh isn't the only man keeping the fighting spirit running in his family.

His older brother, Biaggio Ali Walsh, is a professional MMA fighter and currently competes under the PFL banner.

Biaggio was submitted in the first round in his last fight at PFL Austin.
