The San Francisco Giants have not performed up to expectations this year, as they were eliminated from postseason contention a week ago amid a rough season in manager Tony Vitello's debut season. Just to add insult to injury, star slugger Rafael Devers underwent season-ending surgery after suffering an injury to his core muscle.

Devers remains as productive of a hitter as ever when healthy. Before seeing his season get cut short, Devers recorded 37 home runs and 98 runs batted in for the Giantss — with Fangraphs rating his contributions as worth 3.4 WAR. Considering how much of a threat he is at the plate, perhaps some contending teams would be in for him in the offseason.

However, for Jon Morosi of MLB Network, he doesn't see the Giants deciding to trade Devers away this offseason.

“There have been some whispers, would the Giants have been open-minded to moving him at the deadline? Right now, I see almost no chance of him changing teams this winter,” Morosi said.

“The reality right now is that Rafael Devers is probably going to get some top-10 MVP votes. He still leads all of Major League Baseball in doubles. His overall production this year, even in a ballpark that's not always been hitter-friendly, puts him at a level above what his career averages have been.”

The Giants did indeed make the aggressive move of acquiring Devers from the Boston Red Sox last year, taking on the entirety of his huge contract that runs until 2033.

As productive as Devers has been, trading for him is not going to be an easy task for any other team anyway. The Giants have been in search of a superstar position player to build around, as evidenced by their pursuits of Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani in recent years, and Devers appears to be their guy for the long haul.

Perhaps if Devers puts up another excellent campaign in 2027 and the Giants remain one of the worst teams in the NL, some more serious trade discussions could be had. But for now, a trade doesn't appear to be on the verge of happening anytime soon.
