Mississippi Valley State is set for an insane out-of-conference schedule to start the 2026-2027 basketball season. The team will have 16 out-of-conference road games in a row, with their first home game occurring on January 9, 2027, against Prairie View A&M. Between November 6 and December 29, they faced several Power Five basketball programs, such as Oklahoma, Oregon, Arkansas, the national champion Michigan Wolverines, national championship runner-up UConn, and Ohio State.

The out-of-conference schedule has gone viral on social media, with some making fun of the Delta Devils' schedule, while many are highlighting that the institution and athletic program are doing what they can to raise needed funds to remain solvent. Mississippi Valley State men's general manager Cyril White responded to the chatter in a social media video with an interesting silver lining to the gauntlet.

“I've been seeing your viral videos. Everybody's talking about these guys are going on 14. They're just going on tour. I can't believe that they have that road schedule. Here's the part that everybody's missing: in those 14 games we will play games on ESPN, Fox, Fox Sports, USA Network, and the SEC. In those 14 games we will have a chance to play in front of an estimated viewing audience of 6 million people: 6 million eyeballs on our first-class athletes, also 6 million eyeballs on our jersey patch partner, 6 million eyeballs in those 14 games and that's just one half of our season.

He added, “We're really excited about the opportunity that we created for our young men at MVSU. Tune in and get your popcorn ready. Go MVSU.”

The Delta Devils went 3-30 last season, including 2-16 in conference. Last year, they played Power Five programs such as Texas A&M, Kansas State, Florida State, West Virginia, and Oklahoma, all in losing efforts.
