Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves hits Lane Kiffin, LSU with $195 million troll job

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves is also giving Lane Kiffin a hard time after his loss to Ole Miss on Saturday.

Kiffin now coaches at LSU who lost 32-24 to Ole Miss, his former university where he spent six seasons as the head football coach. He left in 2025. Several celebrities and fans have spoken out about the loss given the history, which now includes Reeves, who poked fun at the defeat.

“What does a $54 million buyout for the old coach, a $91 million contract for the new coach, and a $50 million roster get you?” Reeves asked on X. “An a-s whipping in Oxford, Mississippi!”

Reeves was referring to the buyout paid to former head coach Brian Kelly after he was fired. Kelly was dismissed from LSU in 2025 and currently works as a broadcast analyst for CBS Sports and SiriusXM. The $91 million is in reference to the 7-year contract given to Lane Kiffin to take over as the new head coach at LSU. Lastly, the $50 million refers to the estimated roster and NIL investment build-up for LSU's football team.

Despite the trolling of Reeves, many came to the defense of Kiffin in the comment section.

“We know this is y’all’s Super Bowl. We chase championships in Baton Rouge. Ole miss is just another game,” one fan wrote.

Another fan believes that Reeves should pay some respect to Kiffin, “You owe everything to Lane Kiffin! He built that program, recruited every player that got you that win tonight, and made ole miss relevant for the first time since the '60s. Puff your chest now because the reckoning without him is coming. Bless you!”

“A– whopping?” a fan asked before providing more context to Ole Miss' 32-24 win. “It was a good win, facilitated by an amazing player – who Kiffin brought in. Came down to the last two drives. I suppose enjoy it now. But some perspective would be good too. Success can be fleeting. Ole Miss still has the best jerseys in the world. So good.”

Kiffin is staying positive and is ready for the future, noting there is “a lot of football left.”

“We're 0-1 in SEC play. Again, whether win or loss, I was already ready for that, knowing, man, it feels like we've already played a season with so much emotion in the games—the first and third games and all the stuff,” he told reporters at the end of the game. “Now we're right back to where we've always been and have eight SEC games to play. There's a lot of football left. We go back home next week and get a win.”

Next up for LSU will be a matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies, and Ole Miss will be facing the Florida Gators on Saturday, Sept. 26.
