Rookie Jeremiyah Love fired up the Arizona Cardinals fans inside SoFi Stadium by scoring touchdown No. 1. But lost amid Love's debut was Mike LaFleur getting his head coaching start against the Los Angeles Chargers. Now he's pulled off a coaching feat last seen in 1973, sharing this accolade with an ex-Chargers coach nonetheless.

LaFleur coached Arizona to a stunning 26-14 road win in his return to Inglewood. He previously coached alongside Sean McVay as offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams.

But now LaFleur earned his name next to this history nugget that longtime Cardinals insider Darren Urban shared after Sunday's win.

“Mike LaFleur is the first Cardinals coach since 1973 – Don Coryell – to win his first game in the job,” Urban posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Coryell led the St. Louis Cardinals from '73 to 1977. But most NFL fans recall his time with the Bolts, leading the franchise from 1978 to 1986 when they played in San Diego. Now LaFleur immediately joins the same stratosphere alongside the coaching legend.

LaFleur lured an area of expertise in offense when he accepted the Cards' head coaching position. But turned to special teams to swing the tide of the game via this blocked punt.
