The Michigan Wolverines are set to start Tommy Carr over Bryce Underwood at quarterback against national champions Indiana on Saturday. It was a big decision by Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham, who pulled the trigger on the move after Carr led the Wolverines to victory over Penn State last week.

Ahead of Carr's first career start, Whittingham listed down all of the youngster's strong qualities that made him a good choice to start.

“He's a tireless worker. Studies film, 'round the clock. Every time I walk by that film room, he's in there. So he's absolutely prepared. He was absolutely prepared last week. He's got a lot of poise. He has that ‘it' fact that you look for in a quarterback. And the team really rallied around him, as you mentioned,” Whittingham said of Carr.

Amid Bryce Underwood's struggles in the first half against Penn State, Whittingham decided to bench the sophomore QB for the freshman Carr. Carr didn't have the flashiest numbers as he finished 5 of 7 on his pass attempts for 47 yards with no passing touchdown. But he did have zero interceptions, as well as 36 rushing yards and a score as he led the Wolverines to a 21-18 win.

With Underwood unable to stop turning the ball over this season, Whittingham has opted for a relatively safer pair of hands with Carr. It's unlikely that Whittingham will ask too much of the freshman offensively. He just needs Carr to drive the offense without making too many mistakes against Indiana, which will be easier said than done.
