The Miami Hurricanes scored a big win on the recruiting trail Wednesday by flipping four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside from the Texas A&M Aggies, adding another blue-chip prospect to their 2027 class. The Burleson, Texas, native announced his decision on social media after visiting Miami for its home game against Florida State last weekend.

Whiteside had been committed to Texas A&M since June 1, shortly after taking an official visit to the Aggies. However, the Hurricanes continued pursuing the linebacker after offering him during the offseason, eventually convincing him to change his commitment.

The 6-foot-2 prospect, listed at 205 pounds, is the No. 27 linebacker and No. 347 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. Rivals ranks him No. 21 among linebackers and No. 254 nationally, while the Rivals industry ranking places him at No. 31 among linebackers and No. 376 overall.

Whiteside has built a statistically impressive body of work during his high school career. Last season, he finished with 46 tackles, three tackles for loss and one forced fumble. This year, he has accumulated 91 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and a forced fumble, along with a punt-return touchdown.

Whiteside, whose father also played in the NFL and Canadian Football League, joins fellow blue-chip linebackers AJ Randle Jr. and Noah Glover in Miami's 2027 class, giving the Hurricanes three highly regarded prospects at the position.
