Miami football opened the 2026 season with four straight victories for the fourth consecutive year as star quarterback Darian Mensah guided the Hurricanes to a 52–3 win over Central Michigan on Saturday. The dominant victory also helped Mensah add another remarkable statistical achievement to his resume.
According to CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer, Mensah became the first FBS player in the past 30 years to record more passing touchdowns than incompletions through his first four games of a season. He now has 14 touchdown passes compared to just 12 incompletions.
According to ESPN Insights, Mensah became the first Miami player in the last 30 seasons to record three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the first half. His three passing scores also brought his season total to 14, tying Cam Ward’s 2024 mark for the most passing touchdowns by a Miami quarterback through the team’s first four games during that span.
The star quarterback maintained his impressive level of play after halftime and ultimately completed 23 of 27 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns. Mensah also contributed 21 rushing yards and added another touchdown on the ground.

According to Opta Stats, Mensah has recorded at least an 85.0% completion rate, three or more passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions in all four of Miami’s games this season. Over the last 30 years, the only FBS player to produce more such games across an entire season was Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who recorded six last season.
Miami still has eight regular-season games remaining. It remains to be seen whether Mensah can maintain and continue adding to his already impressive numbers as the Hurricanes enter the crucial stretch of the 2026 season.
