Melbourne Stars reunite Overton twins as Craig and Jamie set to play together in BBL|16

Melbourne Stars have signed Craig and Jamie Overton for BBL|16 on one-year deals, bringing the twin brothers together for the first time since Jamie left Somerset for Surrey in 2020. The pair will make history as the first set of twins to appear in the Big Bash League.

Craig arrives at the Stars having never previously played in the BBL, while Jamie joins from Adelaide Strikers, where he spent the last three seasons. Stars director of coaching Peter Moores was central to recruiting both players, having worked with Craig during the 2026 northern summer.

"It's a unique story having twin brothers sign together, and one that we hope our fans are going to love. But more importantly, they both bring a really valuable set of skills to the club," said Melbourne Stars general manager James Rosengarten.

What does Craig Overton bring to Melbourne Stars?

Craig Overton comes to the Stars with a strong international and domestic record. He has played seven ODIs and eight Test matches for England, and his Test debut came at Adelaide Oval in 2017, giving him first-hand experience of Australian conditions ahead of his BBL campaign.

The 2026 northern summer was particularly productive for Craig. He helped Trent Rockets reach the Hundred final, claiming eight wickets across the tournament, and was subsequently named the Professional Cricketers' Association's Most Valuable Player for England's domestic season. Craig is also the older of the two brothers, born three minutes before Jamie.

"Jamie and Craig are both genuinely quick bowlers and will no doubt trouble a lot of batters this summer. They're also big hitters, so we're ready for some fireworks at the end of the batting innings. We think this dual signing is going to set us up really well for success. Combining them both in the line-up with Peter Siddle's speed will be worth getting to the 'G to watch," sid Rosengarten.

The signing reunites two experienced English pace-bowling all-rounders within the same franchise, giving the Stars genuine depth with the ball. Craig's familiarity with Australian pitches from his Test experience, combined with Jamie's three seasons of BBL cricket at Adelaide, provides the coaching staff with a well-rounded option in both formats of the game's shortest version.
