The Green Bay Packers fell to a 4-3 record after suffering a tough 20-17 Week 7 loss to the Detroit Lions. Although many believe the club got a bit screwed over by some controversial officiating, head coach Matt LaFleur took it easy on NFL referees on Tuesday.

When the questionable officiating was brought up to the 46-year-old again, LaFleur seemingly took the high road. He admitted that referees have a difficult job, as they have to make decisions based on plays that happen in an instant, according to Ryan Wood of USA Today Sports. LaFleur ended his statement claiming that all he wants to see as a coach is consistent officiating.

“I don't think officiating in this league is very easy,” LaFleur said. “I really don't. I think things happen quickly, and there's some bang-bang decisions they have to make. So I don't think they have an easy job. All you want as a coach is consistency.”

Green Bay was given controversial penalties late in the second half that helped the Lions secure the win. A roughing-the-passer call in the third quarter on Packers defensive end Brenton Cox even had future Hall of Fame quarterback turned announcer Tom Brady up in arms. There were also penalties called on defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, defensive tackle Karl Brooks, and quarterback Jordan Love that left viewers scratching their heads.

NFL coaches and players are not typically allowed to ridicule officials, as it can result in heavy fines or suspensions. That rule may play a part in Matt LaFleur's comments on Tuesday. Either way, the Packers will move on to Week 8 for a “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
