The confusion has been resolved regarding the status of former NFL quarterback and former Fox announcer Mark Sanchez’s criminal case.
After a change-of-plea hearing set for November 9 was scrapped without explanation, the hearing was reset for January 27. When that happens, the case will have a new judge.
The prior judge, as explained by Sean Keeley of Awful Announcing, recused herself for reasons that were not disclosed. The involvement of a new judge becomes the most obvious explanation for the delay in turning an informal plea deal into a formal guilty plea, followed by sentencing.
Sanchez faced multiple charges after an October 2025 altercation with a then-69-year-old truck driver in Indianapolis. Days before the criminal trial was set to commence, Sanchez agreed to plead guilty.
It’s still not clear whether Sanchez will be pleading guilty to one or more misdemeanors or one or more felonies.
The separate civil lawsuit filed by the truck driver, Perry Tole, against Sanchez and others has been resolved via an agreement that is in the process of being formalized.
