Tarik Skubal may not win a third consecutive Cy Young this year, but he's still among the best pitchers in the game. Skubal's Cy Young hopes all but vanished when he missed time earlier in the season due to injury. Switching leagues via his trade from the Detroit Tigers to the Los Angeles Dodgers didn't help matters. It has, however, helped the Dodgers while also placing Skubal in a position to pitch in the postseason.

Mark DeRosa shared a breakdown of Skubal's ability to pitch to right-handed batters on Tuesday following the southpaw's seven-inning shutout performance against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

"I'm driving to the ballpark against Tarik Skubal, I'm probably punching out once. I have to be OK with that."

Of course, right-handed batters often find more success against left-handed pitching. Skubal is able to find success against both left and right-handed hitters, though.

DeRosa explained how Skubal turns to his changeup on a consistent basis with two strikes. The pitch has some arm-side run, meaning it dances away from right-handed hitters. Skubal's ability to tunnel the pitch off of his four-seam fastball, which he throws the second-most with two-strikes to right-handers, consistently keeps batters off-balance and guessing at the plate.

Of course, pitch selection is one thing. Execution is another. Skubal is able to throw his changeup for a strike when he needs to, but he can also start it as a strike before having it move out of the zone, which often leads to hitters chasing the pitch.

Tarik Skubal is a star, and he is poised to help the Dodgers make another deep postseason push.
