Michigan has moved to 3-0 on the season after a 52-17 victory over UTEP on Saturday. It was a slow start to the game for the Wolverines, but the offense picked up late. The squad was able to pull starters, and Michigan freshman Tommy Carr got into the game, throwing his first career touchdown pass.

While the first quarter of the contest was not perfect, it was an improvement, and something that head coach Kyle Whittingham noticed, according to Clayton Sayfie of On3.

“I think so. I think we're trending in the right direction. Our most productive offensive game by a landslide. If you can get to 60 with points and first downs, you have about a 90-percent chance to win. We didn't come close to that the first two weeks, but today over 70,” Whittingham said of the victory.

Michigan had 52 points against UTEP, while also converting 27 first downs in the game. Meanwhile, they have just 13 points and 12 first downs against Western Michigan in the first week of the season. They would improve in Week 2, with 14 first downs and 17 points against Oklahoma. Still, this was a major step in the right direction. Michigan has more first downs in this game than they had in the first two weeks combined.

Turnovers were still an issue for Michigan. They had two lost fumbles in the game, which led to 14 points for UTEP.

Michigan will hope to continue to improve in Week 4. It is a Top 25 clash between Iowa and Michigan on tap for Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor.
