The 49ers may need another wide receiver after Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins, but Brandon Aiyuk will not be that player. Kyle Shanahan ended that possibility with one word after San Francisco's 35-13 victory.

Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard asked Shanahan whether the team's latest injuries could change its stance on Aiyuk. The 49ers head coach immediately shut down any possibility of a reunion.

“No,” Shanahan said.

San Francisco entered the game without Ricky Pearsall and De'Zhaun Stribling, then lost Demarcus Robinson and Mike Evans during the game.

Robinson suffered a high ankle sprain that could keep him out for an extended period. Evans left with a hip issue, but his situation appears less concerning. Shanahan said Evans could have returned in the fourth quarter if the game had been closer.

Evans finished with three catches for 54 yards. Robinson's injury is the bigger concern for San Francisco, especially with Pearsall and Stribling already unavailable.

Aiyuk remains on the reserve/left squad list and has not played since suffering ACL, MCL, and meniscus injuries in October 2024. The 49ers also voided $27 million in guaranteed money for 2026 after Aiyuk missed mandatory rehabilitation sessions.

According to Aiyuk, he did not plan to seek reinstatement or return to San Francisco this summer.

The 49ers now have to look elsewhere for help. Shanahan said the team will explore adding a receiver to the 53-man roster or practice squad rather than reopening the door for Aiyuk.

San Francisco is 2-0 after Sunday's win and will have another week to assess its receiver options before its Week 3 matchup. For now, Shanahan's answer leaves no room for speculation about Aiyuk's return.
