New York Knicks star center Karl-Anthony Towns has been one of the main talking points for the New York Knicks this offseason and at the start of training camp before the 2026-27 NBA season begins. Although Towns is still under contract and looking to defend the Knicks' recent championship with the same group from the previous season, he is eligible for a four-year extension worth upwards of $276 million.
After seeing Jalen Brunson take a pay cut to help the Knicks build a championship contender, Towns has recognized that it's likely his turn to do the same. However, contract talks between him and the team have not progressed well due to the two sides being very far apart on value, and it's continues to look increasingly likely that there won't be a deal before the start of the new season.
From Towns' perspective, he wants to keep the Knicks' core together and still get paid in the process, yet negotiations have led him to feeling a little disrespected and uneasy.

As far as the possibility of a deal getting done before the regular season begins on Oct. 20, Towns stated, “It doesn't look good.”
This is a developing story that will be updated shortly.
