The next episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit marks Jalen Brunson's debut and pairs him with New York Knicks superfan Mariska Hargitay.

The teaser for the episode revealed who he is playing. Brunson will play a detective named Madison, maybe a tongue-in-cheek reference to Madison Square Garden.

Hargitay's Olivia Benson approaches Brunson's Detective Madison. They meet up, and the Knicks star greets Benson, saying, “Hey, captain.”

It sounds like Benson's team is in a bind and needs “backup,” leading them to Madison. Expect the captain to save the day as he always does.

Hargitay, who is a die-hard Knicks fan and close friend of Brunson, announced that he would be on the show in August 2026. They gave fans a preview of what it could look like in the Law & Order-themed cold open of the Emmys, which were hosted by Hargitay, in September.

Law & Order: SVU was one of the many projects Brunson worked on in the offseason. Before training camp began, he hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) for NBC. He was the host of the Season 52 premiere.

Now, he is all about basketball. The Knicks started the 2026-27 season 0-3 before winning two in a row. They will next face the Philadelphia 76ers, who spoiled the Knicks' Opening Night festivities last week, on Friday, Oct. 30.

Brunson is averaging 25.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and five assists per game. After a slow start, Brunson came alive in the Knicks' 19-point comeback against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, Oct. 28. He scored 38 points—a season-high—in 35 minutes and made over 50% of his shots.
